Yiting Cathy Cheng

  • Instructor I of Chinese

With a background in both language and law, I am deeply interested in how second language learning can enhance their understanding of diverse perspectives. I believe language learning is both an intellectual and cultural journey that broadens one’s understanding of society and identity. Beyond academia, I am actively involved in the local Asian community, where I strive to support and empower Asian heritage students to connect with, and take pride in, their own histories and cultural roots. My research interests, thus, extend to exploring Asian American history in Pittsburgh, examining how local historical narratives can be meaningfully integrated into language and cultural education to foster belonging and identity development among heritage learners.
