Savoring the Language in Chinese Food Culture

Get to know more about the Chinese language through discussing its food. Topics include (1) Food naming in Chinese culture and polysemy in words associated with food; (2) conceptual metaphors in Chinese associated with food, food texture, taste, cooking method, etc.; (3) issues in language borrowing, transliteration, and translation on food topics; (4) sociolinguistic issues including pragmatic competence in the Chinese food culture and speech analysis in food-related text.
