Intercultural Communication in Chinese

The main text used for this course will be drawn from the DormCorpus, a collection of conversations in Chinese between American and Chinese college students in a study-abroad program. Some film clips may also be used. Students will be introduced to a range of topics (e.g., racial/ethnic diversity in the U.S. and in China, friendship; gender equality, philosophies and cultural practices of well-being, concept of privacy and freedom, etc.) that they may encounter in intercultural experiences with Chinese-speaking communities in the U.S. and in China.

Gen Ed: Cross-cultural awareness.

Prerequisite: Intermediate-level oral proficiency in Chinese (e.g., CHIN0004) or Departmental consent.
