Second Year Japanese 1

Note

An intensive version (JPNSE 1062) is offered during the summer which also includes JPNSE 0004.

This course is offered regularly during the fall term.

Description

The third term in the sequence of Japanese language instruction, this course is designed to further develop the student's ability in speaking and understanding daily conversation while continuing to increase proficiency in reading and writing. This includes the introduction of more complex grammatical structures and idiomatic expressions, and the study of about 120 additional characters. Lesson materials include discussions of the language, literature, social interactions and other aspects of Japanese culture.

Students register for both lecture and recitation—two hours of lecture and five hours of recitation per week. The recitations are taught entirely in Japanese by native Japanese speakers, and are designed to provide further practice and reinforcement of material discussed in lecture classes.
