Research Interests

From 1934 to 1942, a semi-governmental group known as the Board of Tourist Industries published a booklet series called the Tourist Library Series in English. Rather than cater to typical tourist information, the objective for this series was to properly educate foreigners on an accurate representation of Japan. My research aims to demonstrate that, as a tourism promotional material, the Tourist Library Series represents a tool for government propaganda, rather than just a moneymaking scheme.
